Kenthene Satin Grade 4 is manufactured exclusively for steel makers and laboratories for non-destructive testing (NDT) work using the sulphur printing process.
The process involves immersing a silver bromide paper in 3% sulphuric acid for approximately three minutes.
The sulphuric acid is absorbed in the gelatine layer, the paper is then removed from the acid bath, to drain in order to remove the excess acid and then placed on a machined steel sample surface.
The paper is rubbed smooth to remove air bubbles and to ensure intimate contact between paper and steel. A latent image is then produced on the paper through the following reaction: |
H2SO4 + MnS = H2S+ MnSO4
H2S + 2AgCl = Ag2S + 2HCL. |
Agfa used to manufacture Copy Line Paper P150 which was suitable for this process but it has now been discontinued. Kenthene Satin Grade 4 is a perfect alternative.
Kentmere manufactures this paper for Corus (Formerly British Steel).
The contrast level hardeners used in the emulsion and surface finish are absolutely critical to the sulphur printing process. Kentmere manufactures a wide variety of black and white papers but only Kenthene Satin Grade 4 gives the required results.
Kenthene Satin Grade 4 can be supplied in from stock in standard sizes.
